Tucson, AZ (September 10, 2026) – A 76-year-old man died after being struck by a Volkswagen SUV while crossing E Grant Rd near N Arcadia Ave on Tuesday morning, September 8. The man was identified as Steven Lee McClain.
Authorities said McClain attempted to cross E Grant Rd at N Arcadia Ave using a crosswalk equipped with a HAWK signal. He activated the signal and entered the intersection before the light cycled to solid red.
A Volkswagen SUV then struck McClain. The SUV was traveling at approximately 40 mph, which is the posted speed limit on E Grant Rd at N Arcadia Ave.
McClain died at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen was not hurt or impaired, according to the police. The investigation into the fatal accident remains underway, with additional details expected as the review continues.
