Wichita, KS (August 23, 2026) – An 18-year-old woman died on Friday night, August 21, after being hit by a van on the Kansas Turnpike.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority reported that the accident happened at about 8:15 p.m. The car carrying Shyann Clark had broken down and was parked on the inside shoulder of northbound I-35.
Clark, who was from Atlanta, Kansas, was running across the highway from the car when a northbound van struck her. She died from her injuries after the collision.
The van driver remained at the location and cooperated with officials.
Traffic was diverted at mile marker 19 Friday night, while the turnpike was closed at mile marker 21. The highway has since reopened. Authorities are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the accident.
