What Evidence Is Commonly Reviewed After a Fatal Pedestrian Collision?
After a pedestrian is fatally hurt by a vehicle, investigators usually examine several types of evidence to better understand how the roadway encounter unfolded. Surveillance video from nearby businesses, traffic cameras, and private security systems can help establish vehicle movement and pedestrian activity before contact occurred.
Physical evidence, including skid marks, vehicle damage, debris, and roadway markings, may also be documented. Investigators frequently review lighting, weather, visibility, and road design to determine whether environmental factors contributed. Witness statements can provide additional perspective, especially when multiple people observed what happened. Medical findings and vehicle inspections may also become part of the overall review as investigators work to build a complete picture based on confirmed evidence.
