North Fort Myers, FL (September 6, 2026) – A 59-year-old Fort Myers man died after a vehicle struck him while he was crossing US-41 on foot on Friday night, September 4.

The accident happened at about 8:52 p.m. on the southbound US-41. The man was crossing from Judd Rd when a 2015 Ford Focus approached.

A 17-year-old Cape Coral girl was driving the Ford when it struck the man. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, while the teen did not suffer injuries.

The names of those involved were not released. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the deceased man’s loved ones.

What Should Pedestrians Know About Crossing Busy Highways?

Crossing a busy highway on foot can expose pedestrians to serious risks, especially after dark. Drivers may have less time to see someone entering their path when visibility is reduced.

Pedestrians should use marked crossings, sidewalks, pedestrian signals, or designated crossing points whenever available. Before crossing, they should look in both directions and make sure approaching vehicles have enough distance to stop safely.

Wearing bright or reflective clothing can also make a person easier for drivers to see at night. Carrying a light can improve visibility in areas with limited street lighting.

Drivers should remain alert near crossings and watch for people who may be walking along or across the highway. Reducing speed in areas with pedestrian activity can provide more time to react.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
