Dallas, TX (June 15, 2026) – A young person died on Saturday morning, June 13, after being struck by a vehicle on northbound Julius Schepps Freeway in Dallas. The crash happened in the 8100 block at approximately 10:24 a.m.
The police say two vehicles were involved: one vehicle had stopped in the northbound left lane, and the passenger inside had stepped out onto the freeway. An SUV approaching from behind swerved to avoid the stopped vehicle but struck the pedestrian, then spun out and rolled over.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later lost their life. The SUV driver was also taken to the hospital but was not seriously hurt. Officials have not said what led to the wreck, but they are still looking into how it happened.

Why Is Walking Near Highway Traffic So Dangerous?
Highways and freeways are built for fast-moving traffic, not foot traffic. Speed limits are usually 60 miles per hour or higher, giving drivers very little time to react if someone is walking near the road. Even a short walk along the shoulder can put a person in danger.
Pedestrians become especially vulnerable when a vehicle is stopped in a travel lane. Drivers approaching from behind may not notice the stopped car until the last second, especially at night or during heavy traffic. Swerving to avoid a stopped vehicle can create new dangers for anyone standing nearby.
Experts generally recommend staying inside a vehicle with hazard lights on if it breaks down on a highway, rather than stepping out into traffic. Moving to a safe location away from moving lanes, such as a shoulder or median, can reduce risk. Calling for help from a safe spot is frequently safer than walking along the road.
