Caldwell, ID (June 10, 2026) – One person died, and four others were taken to a hospital following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of East Linden Street and South Kimball Avenue in Caldwell on Monday night, June 9.
According to reports, a 28-year-old man from Guatemala was driving a pickup truck westbound on East Linden Street at about 9:20 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a sedan at the intersection. The driver of the sedan, later identified as 35-year-old Miguel Vasquez of Caldwell, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three children who were riding in the sedan, along with the pickup driver, were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The Canyon County Coroner’s Office said Vasquez died from injuries received in the crash, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the full extent of those injuries.
The pickup driver was later arrested and booked on a vehicular manslaughter charge, according to jail records. Traffic in the intersection was blocked for more than three hours while emergency units worked in the roadway. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident and have not yet released additional findings.
We share our heartfelt sympathies with the family and friends mourning this loss.
What Happens After a Fatal Intersection Collision?
Fatal crashes at intersections usually lead to a detailed review of many factors connected to the moments before and after the collision. Investigators commonly examine traffic controls, vehicle positions, roadway markings, visibility, witness statements, and physical evidence left on the pavement. Information from vehicle data systems may also help establish speed, braking activity, and other driving actions.
Medical examinations can provide further insight into the injuries involved and may help determine how the collision affected those inside the vehicles. In cases involving possible traffic violations, investigators may also review driver records and other relevant evidence. These reviews can take time, especially when multiple people are involved. As more information becomes available, findings may help create a clearer picture of how the crash occurred and the factors that contributed to it.
