Hermitage, TN (September 14, 2026) – One person was taken to a hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on Sunday, September 13, on Interstate 40 in Hermitage.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, three cars collided near mile marker 219 at approximately 5:15 a.m. One person was transported by ambulance, but the patient’s condition was not immediately known.

Three eastbound lanes of I-40 past the Stewarts Ferry Pike exit were closed while crews worked to clear the crash. The roadway remained affected at approximately 6:15 a.m. before all roadways were reopened by 6:36 a.m., according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Additional details about the circumstances of the crash were not immediately available.

Our thoughts are with the person taken to the hospital and their loved ones. We hope the patient makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Are Multi-Vehicle Crashes More Likely to Cause Secondary Collisions?

When several vehicles are involved in a crash, traffic can change quickly as lanes become blocked and drivers attempt to move around the incident. Motorists approaching a crash should slow down early and increase their following distance. Looking beyond the vehicle immediately ahead can help drivers spot stopped traffic and other hazards sooner.

Sudden lane changes can create additional risks when traffic is merging around a blocked lane. Drivers should check mirrors and blind spots before moving and avoid making abrupt maneuvers. Following temporary traffic directions and allowing other vehicles room to merge can help keep the area safer.

Drivers should also remain alert for emergency vehicles and roadside crews. Reduced speed and greater following distance give motorists more time to respond when conditions change unexpectedly. Staying focused and avoiding distractions is especially important when traveling through an area affected by a recent crash.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
