San Jose, CA (June 16, 2026) – One person was killed and three others were hospitalized after a pursuit ended in a deadly collision early Sunday morning, June 14, at an intersection in San Jose.
According to reports, officers first spotted a gold Buick sedan being driven recklessly around 12:16 a.m. on Stevens Creek Blvd. in nearby Santa Clara. The vehicle was seen traveling on the center median and the wrong side of the roadway. When a traffic stop was attempted, the driver refused to pull over and continued through Santa Clara before entering Highway 880 and San Jose.
Investigators said the Buick later went through a red light and struck another vehicle before hitting a traffic pole at the intersection. An adult woman riding as a passenger in the Buick died at the site. The driver was taken to a local hospital, while the two occupants of the second vehicle were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The identities of those involved had not been publicly released at the time of publication. Detectives are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal wreck.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the woman’s family and friends during this difficult time.
What Factors Are Commonly Examined After a Pursuit-Related Traffic Fatality?
After a pursuit-related traffic fatality, investigators typically review several types of evidence to determine how the sequence of events unfolded. This usually includes traffic signal data, surveillance footage, witness statements, and vehicle damage assessments. Road conditions, visibility, and vehicle speeds may also be analyzed to build a clearer picture of what occurred.
Data from onboard vehicle systems can sometimes provide information about braking, steering, and acceleration before the roadway tragedy took place. Investigators may also examine whether traffic laws were violated and how those actions contributed to the outcome. In cases involving multiple vehicles, evidence from each driver and passenger can help establish a timeline. These findings are commonly used to understand the circumstances surrounding the loss of life and injuries reported in a serious roadway investigation.
