What Information Is Commonly Examined Following a Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash?
After a deadly roadway collision, investigators may review several types of evidence to better understand what occurred. This may include vehicle damage, roadway markings, traffic signal data, and witness statements. Information gathered from the vehicles themselves can also help establish speed, braking activity, and driver actions before the crash.
Medical findings may provide further insight into the severity of injuries sustained by those involved. Weather, lighting conditions, and visibility are also commonly evaluated, particularly during early morning hours. In some cases, investigators examine whether impairment, distraction, fatigue, or mechanical problems may have contributed to the sequence of events.
As evidence is collected and analyzed, a clearer picture of the circumstances leading up to the crash can emerge. Final findings are usually released only after all available information has been carefully reviewed.
