Charlotte, NC (August 27, 2026) – Four people were injured on Wednesday morning, August 27, after seven dogs attacked a woman in north Charlotte.

The woman was outside her home near the intersection of Claiborne Woods and Woodcock Lane when the dogs entered her yard. She was reportedly attacked by the pack while a deputy was conducting an eviction nearby.

The deputy, identified as Takaryl Bolton, attempted to help the woman before drawing a firearm and shooting one of the dogs. The animal died, while another dog was reportedly subdued with a Taser.

Three other people were hurt while trying to help during the attack. Six dogs were captured alive and taken to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control Main Shelter on Byrum Dr.

The dog that died will undergo a necropsy and rabies testing. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack remains underway, and additional details may be released later.

Our thoughts are with everyone who was hurt as they recover.

What Happens After a Serious Dog Attack?

Serious dog attacks can cause injuries ranging from bites and puncture wounds to fractures and other trauma. Medical professionals may examine the affected person for bleeding, tissue damage, infection, and possible exposure to rabies.

Rabies prevention can become especially important when the animal’s vaccination history is unknown. Health providers may recommend treatment based on the type of contact, the animal’s status, and local public health guidance.

Animal control agencies may also evaluate the dogs involved and review their vaccination records when available. Information about the animals can help determine appropriate public health measures and whether additional testing is needed.
