Allendale County, SC (August 20, 2026) – One person died on Wednesday morning, August 19, following a collision between an SUV and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Revolutionary Trail in Allendale County. It happened around 7:30 a.m.
The driver of a 2001 GMC Yukon was heading east on Revolutionary Trail when the vehicle struck a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling south on U.S. 301, according to troopers.
The Yukon’s driver was taken to a hospital, where they later died from their injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt. The wreck remains under investigation.

Rural intersections where a smaller road meets a busy federal highway, like U.S. 301, can be especially dangerous because of the speed difference between through traffic and vehicles crossing from a side road. Morning hours can bring long shadows and glare, particularly for drivers facing east or west, which can make it harder to judge the speed and distance of a large vehicle approaching an intersection. This kind of visibility challenge is a common contributing factor in early morning highway incidents in rural areas.
