Fayette County, PA (August 5, 2026) – A man was killed on Monday afternoon, August 3, when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with another car on Pleasant Valley Road in Bullskin Township. It happened around 3:15 p.m., authorities said.

Theodore Boles was heading northbound when he crossed the double yellow line and struck the other vehicle, officials said. He died at the scene.

The other driver was rescued from his vehicle by firefighters and flown to a hospital. He was listed in stable condition. The cause of the wreck remains under review.

Our condolences go out to Boles’ family and loved ones, and we hope for a full recovery for the other driver.

Why Is Crossing the Center Line So Fatal?

Crossing a double yellow line into oncoming traffic is one of the most dangerous mistakes a driver can make, since both vehicles are typically moving toward each other at highway or near-highway speeds. Even a brief lapse in attention, such as reaching for a phone or glancing away from the road, can be enough to drift out of a lane on a rural two-lane road.

Roads like Pleasant Valley Road, with no median barrier separating opposing lanes, offer little protection once a vehicle crosses the centerline. A driver in the oncoming lane has only a second or two to react, which may not be enough time to swerve or brake safely.

Vehicle extrication after a serious accident can take specialized tools and training, especially when a car’s frame is badly damaged. Firefighters trained in this kind of rescue work carefully free a trapped driver while trying to avoid causing further injury, a process that can take anywhere from a few minutes to much longer.
