Adelanto, CA (August 19, 2026) – One person was killed on Tuesday morning, August 18, in a collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck on State Route 18, also known as Palmdale Road, west of Baldy Mesa Road in Adelanto. It happened around 7:35 a.m. That stretch of Highway 18 is a two-lane rural route connecting Adelanto to the Victor Valley area of the High Desert.
The wreck involved a black 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and a tractor-trailer marked with BHC Trucking LLC signage, according to initial reports.
It was not immediately clear which vehicle’s occupant died, and no further details were released.
The cause remains under investigation. Our condolences go out to the family of the person who died.

Rural two-lane highways in the High Desert region carry a mix of local traffic and long-haul trucking, since routes like Highway 18 connect smaller communities to larger regional roads. Collisions between a pickup truck and a semi-truck are especially severe because of the significant weight difference between the two vehicles. A fully loaded tractor-trailer can weigh 20 to 30 times more than a pickup, meaning most of the force in the encounter is absorbed by the smaller vehicle and its occupants.
Morning commute hours in desert communities can bring long shadows and glare from a low sun angle, which can make it harder for drivers heading east or west to see oncoming traffic clearly. This kind of visibility challenge is a common contributing factor to early-morning highway accidents throughout the region.
