Two Harbors, MN (September 14, 2026) – One person was killed, and multiple others were injured on Saturday, September 12, after several motorcycles crashed on Highway 61 near Two Harbors.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a group of motorcycles was traveling northbound on Highway 61 and crashed after exiting the Silver Creek Tunnel. During the collision, multiple motorcycles entered the southbound lane and struck a southbound Volkswagen Jetta.

The motorcycle driver, a 31-year-old Bruno man, died in the crash. The 72-year-old Jetta driver and her 81-year-old passenger were not listed as injured in the incident report, while the crash report confirmed that multiple injuries were sustained among those involved.

The crash occurred near milepost 31 in Silver Creek Township. The roadway was dry. Several local law enforcement, fire, ambulance, rescue, and transportation agencies responded to the scene.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the motorcyclist who lost his life in this tragic crash. We also wish everyone injured in the collision a full and speedy recovery.

How Can Motorcyclists Ride More Safely in Groups?

Group motorcycle rides can create additional challenges because several riders are traveling close to one another while sharing the same roadway. Riders should maintain enough space to react if another motorcycle slows, changes position, or loses control. A staggered formation can provide visibility and reaction space when conditions allow, but riders should still avoid following too closely.

Curves, tunnels, intersections, and changes in lighting can affect how quickly riders recognize hazards. Motorcyclists should adjust their speed to the roadway and visibility conditions and remain prepared for sudden changes after exiting a tunnel or entering a different lighting environment. Maintaining a safe speed can provide more time to respond when another rider encounters trouble.

Motorcyclists should also wear properly fitted helmets and appropriate protective gear on every ride. Staying alert to surrounding traffic is especially important when a crash forces a motorcycle into another lane. Other motorists should watch carefully for motorcycles and leave adequate space when traveling near groups of riders.
