What Risks Are Associated With Vehicle Rollovers?
Vehicle rollovers are among the most serious types of traffic crashes because occupants can be exposed to multiple impacts during a single sequence of events. The force generated when a vehicle overturns repeatedly may increase the likelihood of significant injuries, particularly when occupants become trapped inside the vehicle.
Emergency crews responding to rollover crashes face additional challenges. Stabilizing overturned vehicles, safely removing occupants, and assessing injuries can require specialized equipment and additional time. These efforts are especially critical when a person is unable to exit the vehicle without assistance.
Investigators reviewing rollover collisions frequently examine vehicle speed, roadway conditions, tire marks, and damage patterns. Information gathered from the roadway and involved vehicles can help establish how the rollover began and what factors may have contributed to the sequence of events.
