Memphis, TN (July 10, 2026) – Fifteen people were hurt on Thursday morning, July 9, after a hit-and-run collision involving a Shelby County Sheriff’s transport van on Interstate 40 West near Summer Avenue. The accident happened just after 8:00 a.m.
The van was carrying two staff members and 13 inmates when another vehicle hit it and left the scene. Everyone inside the van was treated for minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Lanes on Interstate 40 were briefly shut down after the wreck but later reopened. The initial report did not include a description of the other vehicle or driver.
