Abilene, TX (August 6, 2026) – A 19-year-old Merkel man died after a motorcycle crash involving an SUV on Tuesday afternoon, August 4, at the intersection of S 9th St and Barrow St in south Abilene.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. when a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle traveling north on Barrow St collided with a Nissan Murano traveling west on S 9th St, according to investigators. Police said the Nissan had stopped at a stop sign before turning onto Barrow St, where it struck the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, identified as Taryn Daniel Collins, was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Collins was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Nissan driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
