Morrison, TN (June 18, 2026) – Two brothers were killed on Wednesday, June 17, after a small aircraft went down in a corn field near Morrison Industrial Park in Warren County.
Warren County E-911 received a report of a possible aircraft emergency around 12:19 p.m. Emergency units located the downed plane in a field near the industrial park, where both occupants were pronounced dead. Family members later confirmed the men aboard were brothers from the Viola community.
According to preliminary findings, the aircraft had departed from a private airstrip in Viola shortly before the tragedy. First responders believe the plane struck a tree after takeoff, causing damage that affected its flight. The pilot reportedly attempted to reach Warren County Memorial Airport but was unable to make it before the aircraft came down.
A nearby witness said he heard the engine running unevenly and watched the aircraft descend before briefly climbing again. He then saw it begin dropping almost straight down behind a tree line. Moments later, he heard and felt the aircraft strike the ground, and he called 911.
The aircraft came to rest in a field and wooded section near Doyle Frazier Road behind Morrison Industries on Progress Boulevard. The names of the two men had not been officially released as notification procedures continued. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s final moments.
Our hearts go out to the brothers’ family members and friends during this difficult time.
What Factors Are Commonly Examined After a Small Aircraft Goes Down?
When a small aircraft is involved in a fatal aviation occurrence, investigators typically review many different factors to determine what happened. These can include the aircraft’s maintenance history, weather conditions, flight path, and any available communications made before the flight ended.
Investigators usually examine the engine, propeller, and other mechanical systems for signs of malfunction. Damage patterns on nearby trees, structures, or terrain may also help establish the aircraft’s path before it reached the ground. Pilot experience, training records, and the aircraft’s loading conditions can provide additional context.
In many cases, specialists reconstruct the sequence of events using physical evidence, witness accounts, and technical data. The goal is to identify contributing factors and improve aviation safety by helping prevent similar tragedies in the future.
