Winnie, TX (July 7, 2026) – Two women were killed, and three others seriously hurt in a head-on collision on Highway 73 near mile marker 742, close to the Highway 124 intersection, Saturday night, July 4. The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Hillary Newton was driving a Chrysler westbound when her vehicle struck a Chevy Tahoe traveling east. Blanca Sandino was behind the wheel of the Tahoe at the time of the wreck. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers inside the Tahoe, ages 12, 14, and 16, were taken by ambulance to a Southeast Texas hospital with serious injuries. No further details about their conditions were available at the time of this report. The accident remains under investigation.
