Oswego, IL (July 29, 2026) – Two people were hurt after a five-vehicle collision shut down Illinois Route 34 for about four and a half hours on Tuesday, July 28, near Orchard Road in Oswego. The roadway was closed in both directions after emergency units arrived shortly after 11:20 a.m., causing significant traffic delays across Kendall County.
A preliminary investigation found that a Chicago man driving a Chrysler Pacifica northbound on Orchard Road may have experienced a medical issue before losing control. His vehicle crossed a grassy median and entered Route 34 east of the intersection, where it struck a westbound semi-truck.
The force of the collision pushed the semi-truck into two other westbound vehicles. Moments later, an eastbound vehicle also struck the Chicago driver’s Pacifica after it had struck the truck.
The driver of the Chrysler and a passenger riding in the semi-truck were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The cause of the crash remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
