Carson, CA (September 3, 2026) – Two people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 405 at Carson Street in Carson on Tuesday, September 1.

The crash was reported at approximately 10:51 p.m. A white Honda sedan, a black Toyota Tacoma, and at least one other vehicle were involved. The collision blocked the HOV lane, and one vehicle was reported to be smoking.

Fire crews responded to the scene, where one person was initially reported to be having a seizure and another was later found unconscious and not breathing. Two people involved in the crash were transported for medical treatment. The roadway was cleared shortly after midnight after emergency crews completed their work.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this serious crash, particularly those who were injured. We wish both injured individuals a full and speedy recovery.

What Should Drivers Know About Highway Emergency Lanes?

Highway lanes can become especially hazardous when a crash blocks traffic or leaves disabled vehicles in the roadway. Drivers approaching an incident should slow down gradually and watch for stopped vehicles, emergency personnel, and changing lane patterns. Sudden braking or abrupt lane changes can create additional collisions.

The HOV lane and other restricted lanes can require particular attention because traffic may normally move at a different pace from adjacent lanes. Motorists should follow posted lane markings and avoid crossing multiple lanes quickly when approaching congestion. Keeping a reasonable following distance gives drivers more time to respond when traffic slows unexpectedly.

Nighttime highway driving can also make crash scenes harder to see. Emergency lights, vehicle headlights, darkness, and smoke can all affect visibility and make it difficult to judge distances. Drivers should remain focused on the roadway, reduce speed when conditions require it, and allow emergency crews enough space to work safely.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
