Cajon Pass, CA (August 5, 2026) – At least two people were hurt in a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck on August 4 along northbound I-15 just north of State Route 138 in the Cajon Pass.

According to dispatch reports, the crash was reported at about 1:52 a.m. and involved three vehicles, including a sedan and a semi-truck pulling a trailer. The semi left the roadway and traveled about 150 feet down an embankment before coming to rest upright. Debris from the vehicles was scattered across all northbound lanes, forcing traffic to stop while emergency units worked to assist those involved and clear the highway.

Initial reports indicated multiple people were injured, including one child. Tow trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles, and a heavy-duty recovery crew was later requested to recover the semi from the embankment.

No additional information about the extent of the injuries was immediately available.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation as more information is gathered.

We extend our best wishes to everyone hurt and hope for their full recovery.

Why Semi-Truck Recovery Can Prolong Highway Closures

Large commercial trucks involved in roadway crashes usually require specialized recovery equipment, especially when they leave the pavement or come to rest on steep embankments. Heavy-duty tow vehicles and salvage crews may need several hours to safely remove a tractor-trailer without creating additional hazards for passing traffic.

Recovery operations frequently involve temporary lane closures while damaged vehicles, spilled cargo, and roadway debris are cleared away. Crews also inspect guardrails, shoulders, and pavement for damage before traffic returns to normal. During the early stages of a major highway collision, information about injuries and the sequence of events may remain limited until investigators complete their review. These steps help restore safe travel conditions while ensuring all vehicles can be removed without causing further risk to motorists.
