San Diego, CA (July 14, 2026) – Two people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on southbound I-5 near the State Route 163 interchange in San Diego on July 14.
According to the California Highway Patrol traffic log, the chain-reaction involved five vehicles and was first reported at approximately 4:55 p.m. A caller reported that several drivers were attempting to leave while one vehicle ahead was reversing as others tried to reach a safer position.
Emergency units arrived and temporarily stopped all southbound lanes before closing lanes three through five while assisting those involved. A later update indicated that three vehicles had been moved onto the right shoulder. CHP also noted that one person complained of arm pain. Tow truck services were requested, and all lanes reopened by about 5:21 p.m.
No additional information about their injuries was immediately available. The cause of the crash remains under investigation as more facts are gathered.
