Shirley, NY (August 25, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident left two drivers injured on Sunday morning, August 23, at the intersection of William Floyd Parkway and Moriches-Middle Island Road in Shirley.

A 25-year-old woman from Mastic was driving a 2021 Nissan southbound on William Floyd Parkway when a 38-year-old Mastic man turned left from Moriches-Middle Island Road onto the southbound side of the parkway. The two vehicles then collided at about 6:37 a.m.

Both drivers told police that the Kia had gone through a red light before the collision. Emergency units took both motorists to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The drivers’ identities were not included in the initial report, beyond their ages and hometowns. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review as more information is gathered.

Our thoughts are with both drivers as they recover from their injuries.

What Can Cause Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Accident?

Two-vehicle accidents can cause a wide range of injuries depending on the vehicles’ speeds, directions of travel, and points of contact. Common injuries include broken bones, cuts, bruising, neck pain, and head trauma.

Traffic signals can also be a key factor in crashes at busy intersections. A driver who enters an intersection against a red light may leave little time for another motorist to react. Seat belts, airbags, and other safety features can reduce the severity of some injuries, but they cannot prevent all harm.

Medical records, vehicle damage, photographs, and witness accounts can help document what happened and the physical effects of a roadway collision. Some symptoms may also appear hours or days after a person leaves the hospital.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
