Elk Grove Village, IL (September 14, 2026) – Two people were injured on Saturday, September 12, after they were struck by a vehicle while standing outside their vehicles on eastbound Interstate 90 near Elk Grove Village.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened around 2:34 p.m. at milepost 73. Two vehicles were involved in an initial crash near the location before two occupants got out of their vehicles and were struck by a third vehicle.

The two injured people were taken to local hospitals for treatment. No further information about their conditions was immediately available. The collision caused a partial lane blockage on eastbound I-90. Illinois State Police continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our thoughts are with both injured individuals and their loved ones. We wish them a full and speedy recovery.

How Can Drivers Stay Safe After a Crash on a Busy Highway?

A disabled vehicle or collision on a highway can create additional hazards for people who are outside their vehicles. High-speed traffic may continue moving nearby, leaving limited time for approaching drivers to react. Whenever possible, motorists should move to a location away from active traffic lanes while waiting for assistance.

Drivers approaching a crash should reduce speed and watch for stopped vehicles, people near the roadway, emergency crews, and debris. Maintaining extra following distance can provide more time to respond if traffic suddenly slows. Sudden lane changes should be avoided unless there is a clear and safe path.

People who must leave a vehicle on a highway should remain as far from moving traffic as conditions allow. Standing on the side of a vehicle or close to an active travel lane can expose people to passing traffic. Staying alert to approaching vehicles and changing traffic patterns is especially important while a crash scene is being cleared.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
