Ellsinore, MO (August 17, 2026) – Two people were injured on Saturday, August 15, after two motorcycles collided on State Route N about a half-mile northeast of Ellsinore in Carter County.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. A 2014 Harley-Davidson Sportster and a 2003 Kawasaki KFX 400 were traveling in opposite directions near the center line on a blind curve when the Harley-Davidson lost control.
The Harley-Davidson traveled across the center of the roadway and struck the Kawasaki. Both motorcycles then traveled off the roadway and overturned, and both drivers were ejected.
The Kawasaki was driven by a 16-year-old boy from Ellsinore, who suffered moderate injuries and was transported by East Carter County EMS to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. The Harley-Davidson was driven by a 30-year-old Ellsinore man who also suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Butler County EMS to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Both drivers were reported to have been wearing safety devices. The motorcycles sustained extensive and moderate damage, respectively, and were removed from the scene by private parties.

What Should Motorcyclists Know About Blind Curves?
Blind curves can create serious risks because riders and drivers may not be able to see approaching traffic until they are close to one another. Motorcyclists should reduce their speed before entering a curve and remain within their lane. Maintaining a controlled speed provides more time to respond when another vehicle appears unexpectedly.
Riders should also avoid positioning themselves near the center line when approaching a curve with limited visibility. Staying within the appropriate portion of the travel lane creates more space from opposing traffic. Smooth steering and braking are especially important when negotiating a turn.
Protective equipment can also reduce the severity of injuries when a motorcycle crash occurs. Helmets, protective jackets, gloves, pants, and appropriate footwear can provide added protection during a fall or slide. Riders should choose equipment that fits properly and is designed for motorcycle use.
