Jefferson County, MO (August 17, 2026) – Four people were injured on Saturday, August 15, after a two-vehicle crash on northbound Old Highway 21 at Missouri Route 21 in Jefferson County.

The crash happened at approximately 4:05 p.m. A 2025 Subaru Outback was traveling north on Old Highway 21 when a 2015 Kia Sorento traveled forward to make a left turn in front of it. The front of the Subaru struck the left front side of the Kia.

The Subaru was driven by a 20-year-old man from House Springs, while the Kia was driven by a 30-year-old woman from Fenton. Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene.

The Kia driver suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Three young passengers in the Kia, ages 3, 10, and 11, were also injured. The 3-year-old suffered minor injuries, while the two older children suffered moderate injuries. All three were transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Rock Township Ambulance District.

The Subaru driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South by private conveyance. All four injured people were reported to have been wearing safety devices.

Our thoughts are with everyone injured in this crash and their families. We wish all four injured individuals a full and speedy recovery.

What Should Drivers Know About Left-Turn Safety?

Left turns require drivers to carefully judge the position and speed of approaching traffic. Before turning, motorists should check for vehicles in all relevant lanes and make sure there is enough space to complete the maneuver safely. Rushing a turn can leave little time to respond if another vehicle is approaching.

Drivers should use their turn signals early so other road users understand their intentions. It is also important to maintain a clear view of oncoming traffic and avoid turning when visibility is blocked. Taking an extra moment to confirm that the path is clear can help prevent a serious collision.

Passengers should always use appropriate safety restraints, including properly fitted child safety seats or booster seats when required. Seat belts and child restraints help reduce the risk of serious injuries during a crash. Keeping children properly secured is especially important because younger passengers are more vulnerable to injury in vehicle collisions.
