Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crash and their loved ones. We wish both injured individuals a full and speedy recovery.
How Can Limited Intersection Visibility Increase Crash Risk?
Intersections can become difficult to navigate when drivers have limited views of approaching traffic. Large vehicles, roadside vegetation, signs, buildings, and other objects can temporarily block another vehicle from view. Taking a moment to scan the entire intersection can help motorists identify potential hazards before entering the crossing.
Traffic approaching from different directions can also make it harder to judge another vehicle’s speed and distance. You should avoid assuming that a clear path in one direction means the entire intersection is safe. Checking again before proceeding can provide an additional opportunity to notice a vehicle that may have entered the roadway.
Turning movements require particular attention because a vehicle may cross another driver’s path unexpectedly. Maintaining a controlled speed gives motorists more time to brake if traffic conditions change. Seat belts should also be worn by everyone in the vehicle because they can help reduce injuries during a sudden impact.
