According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 169 near mile marker 64 when it came into contact with a northbound 2008 Nissan Rogue around 9:52 a.m. The roadway was reported to be dry at the time.
22-year-old Alessandra Bajetti of Plymouth drove the Jeep, while the Nissan was driven by 21-year-old Evan Robert Eyton of Mankato. Both vehicles experienced airbag deployment during the crash. Bajetti and Eyton were wearing seat belts and were taken to River’s Edge Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was not suspected as a factor.
Additional details regarding how the two vehicles came together were not immediately available. The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under review as investigators continue gathering information. We hope those hurt in the crash make a full and speedy recovery.
What Factors Are Often Examined After a Head-On Highway Crash?
When two vehicles traveling in opposite directions come into contact on a highway, investigators typically review several pieces of information to better understand what occurred. This usually includes vehicle positions, roadway markings, driver statements, and any physical evidence left on the pavement.
Traffic patterns, weather, visibility, and vehicle damage may also be examined. Even when roads are dry and the weather is favorable, a variety of circumstances can contribute to a highway collision. Investigators may also review whether drivers remained within their lanes and whether mechanical issues played any part.
Medical reports can help confirm the extent of injuries, while photographs and measurements collected from the roadway may provide additional context. As more information becomes available, a clearer picture of the factors involved can emerge through the review process.
