Sapulpa, OK (August 7, 2026) – Two people were killed, and a semi-truck driver was injured on Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle pulling a horse trailer crashed into a semi-truck on the Turner Turnpike near Sapulpa.

The collision happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 209, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. A semi-truck was pulled over on the right shoulder when another vehicle towing a horse trailer left the roadway and crashed into the back of the semi.

Both vehicles caught fire following the collision. The driver and passenger of the vehicle towing the horse trailer were killed. They were later identified as 52-year-old Jamie Earp and 22-year-old Tucker Earp.

Jamie Earp and his son Tucker were both ropers and were reportedly returning home from the All-Star Team Roping Finals at the Lazy E when the crash occurred. The semi-truck driver was injured in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that caused the vehicle towing the horse trailer to leave the roadway.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Earp family, friends, and loved ones and wish the injured semi-truck driver a full recovery.

Why Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks Can Be Especially Dangerous

Collisions involving commercial trucks can result in severe consequences because of the substantial difference in size and weight between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle. A vehicle striking the rear of a large truck can also experience significant damage, particularly when the collision occurs at highway speeds.

Investigators may examine roadway evidence, vehicle damage, the position of the semi-truck on the shoulder, and witness accounts to determine why the other vehicle left the roadway. They may also review available video footage and other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

When a collision results in a vehicle fire, emergency crews face additional hazards while treating injured people and securing the scene. Fire suppression, vehicle recovery, and debris removal may also be necessary before normal traffic can safely resume.
