Comal County, TX (September 2, 2026) – Two people were seriously hurt after a driver fleeing a traffic stop collided with three vehicles on Monday, August 31, at the intersection of State Hwy 46 and Mission Valley Rd.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said troopers received reports around 10 a.m. of an aggressive driver in a Ford F-150. The driver was allegedly following federal immigration officers and trying to force their vehicles off the road.

Troopers found the pickup on State Hwy 46 and stopped it. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Johnny Acuna Jacobo of Lockhart, allegedly fled during the stop, leading to a pursuit.

DPS said Acuna Jacobo failed to yield while entering the intersection with Mission Valley Rd. His pickup then collided with three other vehicles. Two people were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, while a third injured person said they would seek medical treatment independently.

Acuna Jacobo then fled on foot into a wooded area. Law enforcement found him after a brief search, and he was taken to a local hospital for injuries related to the collision.

After leaving the hospital, Acuna Jacobo was booked into the Comal County Jail. Charges include evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, evading arrest or detention, collision involving an injury with failure to stop and render aid, and possession of a controlled substance.

DPS continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the wreck.

Our thoughts are with everyone hurt as they recover from their injuries.

What Happens When a Driver Flees a Traffic Stop?

A vehicle pursuit can create added risks for everyone using nearby roads. Drivers who flee may travel at unsafe speeds, make sudden turns, or disregard traffic signals while trying to avoid being stopped.

When multiple vehicles become involved, investigators may review vehicle positions, roadway markings, traffic signals, damage patterns, and available video footage. Statements from drivers and witnesses can also help establish the sequence of movements before and during the collision.

Medical records may provide additional information when people are seriously hurt. Photos of vehicle damage and the surrounding roadway can also help document what occurred. These records may be reviewed alongside other available evidence to develop a clearer account of how the collision unfolded.
