San Diego, CA (July 19, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision involving an overturned SUV blocked multiple southbound lanes of I-5 near the Sea World Drive/Tecolote Road area on July 17.
According to dispatch reports, the crash was reported around 3:24 p.m. on southbound I-5 just north of the Sea World exit. Initial information indicated that two vehicles were involved, with one SUV overturning onto its side in the middle lanes, blocking traffic. Later updates identified the overturned vehicle as a red-maroon SUV.
Emergency units arrived and confirmed the overturned SUV was blocking the No. 3 lane. Tow trucks were requested to remove both the overturned SUV and a Nissan involved in the collision. By about 4:05 p.m., crews had moved everything onto the right shoulder, allowing traffic lanes to begin reopening. The cause of the collision remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
