Gilroy, CA (July 19, 2026) – A multi-vehicle traffic collision was reported on July 17 on the southbound side of US-101 at the SR-152 interchange in Gilroy.

CHP reports indicated that the crash was reported around 4:11 p.m. and involved four vehicles. Two of the vehicles came to rest on the off-ramp, while a black Nissan was reported stopped in the fast lane. A white Toyota Corolla, a gray SUV, and a black vehicle were also identified as being involved.

Emergency units were requested on the roadway after the report was upgraded from unknown injuries to a crash requiring medical assistance. One person involved told dispatchers that everyone in the other vehicles appeared to be okay and that no one was bleeding at the time of the call. The full extent of any injuries has not been confirmed, and the identities of those involved have not been released.

The cause of the collision has not yet been determined as investigators continue to gather information.

We hope everyone involved remains safe and recovers quickly.

What Happens After a Multi-Vehicle Highway Crash?

Multi-vehicle crashes usually require a detailed review because several drivers, vehicles, and witness accounts must be compared. Investigators typically examine the position of each vehicle, roadway markings, traffic flow, and any available camera footage to better understand how the chain of events unfolded. Statements from those involved may also help establish the sequence of impacts.

Even when early reports suggest only minor harm, some injuries may not become apparent until hours later. Medical evaluations, vehicle damage assessments, and other evidence can provide a clearer picture as additional information becomes available. Traffic disruptions are also common after crashes involving several vehicles, especially near busy freeway interchanges where congestion can increase the risk of secondary collisions.
