Brooklyn, NY (July 9, 2026) – A 20-year-old man was hurt after two vehicles struck each other before one of them entered a building along Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant late on Tuesday night, July 7.
The wreck happened shortly after 11:15 p.m. A black Cadillac driven by 56-year-old Anthony Hayes collided with a dark-colored BMW operated by 43-year-old Robert Walker. Investigators believe the two drivers were involved in an apparent road rage confrontation before the vehicles came together.
After the collision, the BMW left the roadway and struck a nearby building, damaging a yoga studio. During the chain of events, a 20-year-old pedestrian was also hit by one of the vehicles.
The pedestrian and both drivers were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Walker was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, criminal mischief, and driving through a red light. Hayes was arrested on charges including vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.
The cause of the crash remains under review as investigators continue gathering evidence.
We hope everyone injured in this collision makes a full and speedy recovery.
Why Road Rage Can Increase the Risk of Serious Traffic Collisions
Road rage can quickly turn a routine drive into a dangerous situation for everyone nearby. Aggressive actions such as speeding, following another vehicle too closely, running traffic signals, or making sudden lane changes reduce the time available to react and avoid hazards. These behaviors also increase the chance that people walking, riding bicycles, or traveling in nearby vehicles will become involved.
When a traffic collision is believed to involve aggressive driving, investigators commonly review surveillance footage, witness statements, vehicle damage, and traffic signal information to better understand what occurred. They may also examine road conditions and any available electronic vehicle data. Gathering these details helps create a clearer picture of the sequence of events and can explain how a single confrontation escalated into a serious roadway emergency.
