Charlotte, NC (September 4, 2026) – A 34-year-old pedestrian was killed on Wednesday, September 2, after being struck while crossing a south Charlotte road near Nations Crossing Road and E Woodlawn Road.
The pedestrian was identified as Kyle Kubiak, who was in Charlotte after his flight was canceled, preventing him from returning home to Wisconsin. The driver of the Honda that struck him, identified as 22-year-old Jared Rodriguez, fled after the fatal collision.
Rodriguez later hit another car while running a red light at E Woodlawn Road and Old Pineville Road. He was arrested and charged with felony death by vehicle, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.
Rodriguez is being held in Mecklenburg County Jail on a $1.5 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 24.
