Canton Township, PA (August 16, 2026) – A seven-vehicle crash shut down westbound I-70 near mile marker 15 in Canton Township on Friday afternoon, August 14.
The chain reaction began shortly before 2 p.m. when a car entering I-70 from Exit 15 struck a tow truck traveling in the middle eastbound lane. The car moved onto the left side of the eastbound highway, while the tow truck crossed the guardrail and entered the westbound lanes.
Another car then hit the tow truck, sending it into a ditch and triggering a series of additional impacts involving seven vehicles. The tow truck driver, the driver of the third vehicle, and another driver were taken to area hospitals with suspected serious injuries.
Four other drivers, including the person driving the first car, were not hurt or declined hospital care. Westbound I-70 remained closed for about two hours while emergency units cleared the wreckage and reopened the highway.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation as additional information is gathered.
