Wyoming, PA (July 31, 2026) – A 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Thursday afternoon, July 30, after a pickup truck crossing Wyoming Avenue struck his motorcycle in Wyoming Borough, a small community along the Susquehanna River in the Wyoming Valley. He was heading north when the collision happened around 2 p.m., police said. Wyoming Avenue is a busy corridor that runs through several boroughs in the valley, connecting Wilkes-Barre and Kingston to the north.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The wreck remains under investigation. Our condolences go out to the man’s family and loved ones.

Why Are Crossing Maneuvers So Risky for Motorcyclists?

When a vehicle crosses a road to enter a driveway, side street, or parking lot, the driver has to judge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic in both directions before completing the maneuver. A motorcycle’s smaller size can make that judgment harder, since riders can be easily underestimated in speed or overlooked in a quick glance.

Crossing maneuvers like this are considered especially risky because the vehicle making the crossing is briefly exposed to traffic from multiple directions. A pickup truck or SUV completing this kind of turn needs a large enough gap in traffic to clear the lane safely, and misjudging that gap by even a second or two can lead to a serious outcome.

For motorcyclists, riding defensively near intersections and driveways means assuming other drivers may not see them, even when a rider has the right of way. Wearing bright or reflective gear and covering the brake at potential conflict points can give a rider a split-second advantage if a vehicle suddenly crosses their path.
