Livingston, NY (June 15, 2026) – Four people were taken to a hospital following a crash involving a New York State Police patrol vehicle in Livingston.
The wreck happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12, along County Route 31 near Hill Road. According to preliminary findings, a marked patrol vehicle was traveling southbound when an oncoming Lexus crossed into its lane. The trooper driving the patrol car steered onto the shoulder in an effort to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but the two vehicles still collided.
Two State Police members, identified as a field training officer and a probationary trooper, were able to exit the patrol vehicle after the collision. Both were taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and were later released.
The Lexus was driven by a 72-year-old New Jersey resident and carried three passengers. The driver and one passenger were taken to the hospital for evaluation, while the other two occupants declined additional medical treatment.
A drug recognition evaluation found no signs of impairment involving the Lexus driver. Investigators also reported that there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing connected to the accident. Additional details regarding what caused the vehicles to enter the same lane have not yet been released. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we wish those hurt a smooth recovery.
What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed After a Cross-Lane Traffic Crash?
When a vehicle crosses into an opposing lane, several factors are commonly examined to determine what may have occurred. Investigators typically review roadway markings, traffic patterns, weather conditions, visibility, and any physical evidence left on the pavement. Vehicle positions and damage patterns can also provide insight into how the sequence unfolded.
Modern vehicles may contain electronic data that records speed, steering input, and braking activity before a collision. Witness statements can help fill in details that are not immediately clear from physical evidence alone. Medical issues, driver distraction, fatigue, and mechanical problems are also among the possibilities that may be considered during a review.
As more information becomes available, these findings can help create a clearer picture of the circumstances that led to a roadway crossing and the resulting crash.
