Trenton, NJ (June 1, 2026) – Four workers were hurt Sunday, May 31, when a video board fell while it was being removed following an event at CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton.
According to arena representatives, the overhead display came down during removal operations inside the venue. Emergency units assisted the workers, and all four were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Oak View Group, the Denver-based company that manages the arena, said the video board belonged to a third-party production company. All four people involved were treated and later released from the hospital. The identities of the workers were not publicly disclosed.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being reviewed as additional information is gathered. We send our best wishes to those hurt and hope for their continued recovery.
What Safety Measures Are Common During Large Equipment Removal at Event Venues?
Large arenas usually rely on temporary production equipment for concerts, sporting events, and other gatherings. After an event ends, crews may spend hours dismantling lighting systems, video boards, staging components, and other structures. These tasks frequently involve working at elevated heights and handling heavy materials.
To reduce risk, production teams generally follow detailed removal plans that outline how equipment should be lowered, secured, and transported. Workers may use lifting devices, rigging systems, and protective gear designed for overhead operations. Communication among crew members is also a key part of the process, especially when multiple teams are working in the same space.
When equipment-related accidents occur, reviews often focus on setup methods, maintenance records, load requirements, and workplace procedures. Information gathered during these reviews can help identify contributing factors and improve safety practices for future events.
