Butler, PA (June 1, 2026) – A 12-year-old riding an e-bike was hurt after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of School Street and Eau Claire Street on Sunday, May 31, at approximately 5:00 p.m. The child suffered a hip injury in the collision.
Emergency units arrived quickly and determined the situation required urgent air transport, so a medical helicopter was requested and launched from Cranberry, arriving airborne within minutes of the call.
The child was taken by ground unit to a nearby helipad, where care was transferred to the flight crew, and then they were flown to Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
No information about the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was included in the initial report. Ages and names were not made public at the time of publication.
Investigators are looking into the circumstances of the wreck, and more details are expected to be released as they become available. We are keeping the young patient in our thoughts and wishing them a full recovery.
What Happens When a Child Is Seriously Hurt in a Pennsylvania Crash?
When a child is hurt in a road crash, the priority shifts immediately to stabilizing the patient and getting them to a facility equipped to handle pediatric trauma. Air transport is typically requested when ground transport would take too long or when the nature of the injury requires specialized care that a local hospital may not provide. Children’s hospitals are equipped with pediatric trauma teams trained specifically to treat young patients with serious injuries.
Hip injuries from vehicle crashes can range from bruising and fractures to more complex orthopedic trauma, depending on the speed and angle of the collision. For a child still growing, these injuries may require careful monitoring over time, even after the initial treatment is complete. Early and appropriate medical care is one of the most important factors in long-term recovery outcomes for young crash survivors.
