Southgate, MI (June 15, 2026) – A 48-year-old Southgate man reportedly died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Eureka Road at Trenton Road late on Saturday night, June 13.

Emergency units responded to the intersection shortly before 11 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian crash. According to police information, officers arrived and found the pedestrian unconscious in the roadway. The Southgate Fire Department and an EMS crew provided aid, but the man later died from his injuries.

Authorities said the driver was traveling west on Eureka Road and approaching the intersection when the crash occurred. Police reported that the pedestrian was walking north across all lanes of Eureka Road outside of the crosswalk. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Our heartfelt sympathy is with the loved ones of the deceased.

What Is Reviewed After a Pedestrian Crash at an Intersection?

Pedestrian crashes at intersections are reviewed by examining roadway markings, crossing areas, visibility, and the movement of both the vehicle and the pedestrian. Investigators typically look at where each person was located before the impact and whether traffic conditions affected the situation.

Other details that may be considered include lighting conditions, vehicle speed, and statements from witnesses to the crash. Evidence from the roadway and vehicle damage can also help show how the collision occurred. These reviews help provide a clearer understanding of the events leading up to the crash and the factors involved.
