How Sudden Stops Can Affect Drivers on Two-Lane Roads
Stopped-vehicle crashes can happen quickly when traffic is moving in the same direction. A driver may have only a short time to react if another vehicle is waiting at an intersection, slowing for a turn, or paused near a crossing.
Dry pavement can help with braking, but it does not remove every hazard. Distance, speed, sight lines, and traffic flow all affect whether a driver can stop in time. Even without airbag deployment, a person may still need medical evaluation after a hard jolt.
Reports involving stopped vehicles often focus on travel direction, road surface, safety device use, and vehicle positions. These details can help explain how the contact occurred and why one person needed hospital care.
