Safety Tips for Driving Near Major Freeway Crashes
Drivers approaching a crash scene should reduce their speed and remain alert for emergency vehicles, stopped traffic, and debris. Sudden lane changes can increase the risk of another collision, especially on busy freeways.
When possible, drivers should give emergency crews plenty of space and follow posted detours or traffic directions. Keeping a safe following distance also gives motorists more time to react when traffic slows unexpectedly.
