Evansville, IN (August 7, 2026) — Five people were taken to the hospital on Thursday, August 6, after a five-vehicle wreck involving a charter bus shut down the Lloyd Expressway in Evansville for hours, according to police. Their injuries ranged from minor to critical.
The collision happened at the intersection of the Lloyd Expressway and Crosspointe Boulevard, an area undergoing major construction at the time. First responders arrived within minutes after receiving multiple 911 calls and a phone alert, according to a police spokesperson.
Several people were trapped in the wreckage and needed to be rescued, officials said. The fire chief said the combination of construction congestion and the extent of vehicle damage made the extrication difficult for crews.
One bus passenger described the moment of impact as sudden, saying a white car was involved just before the bus driver braked hard. The bus was traveling from Louisville to Lafayette with five people aboard, including the driver. Police said the exact sequence of events that led to the accident remained under investigation.
