Scioto County, OH (August 7, 2026) – A 51-year-old woman died early on Thursday, August 6, in a head-on collision on Route 104 near mile marker 15 in Morgan Township. The crash was reported at approximately 3:40 a.m.

Ruth Spencer of Lucasville was traveling in a car when a southbound sport utility vehicle crossed the center line and struck her vehicle head-on. Spencer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sport utility vehicle driver received serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. No further medical details were released.

Authorities continue to review the accident to determine the full circumstances.

We extend our sincere condolences to Spencer’s family and friends.

The Risks of Vehicles Entering Opposing Traffic

When a vehicle enters an opposing lane, drivers traveling toward each other may have very little time or distance to react. A head-on wreck can create a powerful force because both vehicles may still be moving forward at the moment of contact.

Occupants can be pushed against seat belts, airbags, dashboards, doors, or windows. The head, chest, spine, abdomen, and limbs may all be vulnerable during a sudden frontal impact.

Travel speed, vehicle size, road width, visibility, and contact angle can influence injury severity. Early morning darkness may also reduce how quickly a driver recognizes an unexpected vehicle ahead. Medical teams often check for fractures, internal bleeding, brain trauma, and organ damage after a major frontal strike.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
