Twinsburg, OH (June 22, 2026) – A 5-year-old boy was seriously hurt on Sunday night, June 21, after a rollover accident on Interstate 480 in Twinsburg Township. The accident happened at about 10:50 p.m.

Deputies said a van pulling a trailer left the road, spun, and rolled over several times. There were 10 people inside the van at the time.

Four passengers were taken to UH Portage Medical Center. The 5-year-old boy was flown to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland with serious injuries.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 480 were temporarily closed while crews reviewed the site. No names were released in the initial report on the collision, but the cause remains under review as investigators work to determine why the van left the road.

We are keeping the young child and everyone affected in our thoughts as they receive medical care.

Why Van Rollovers Can Lead to Serious Harm

Van rollovers can be severe because taller vehicles may shift weight quickly during a sudden turn or loss of control. When a van is also pulling a trailer, movement behind the vehicle can add stress and make steering harder.

Multiple passengers can make medical care more complex. Emergency units may need to check each person for head, neck, back, and internal trauma. Children may need special care because their injuries can be harder to assess right away.

Road closures are common after major rollovers because lanes may be blocked by the vehicle, trailer, or scattered debris. These closures also give crews space to remove damaged vehicles and document what happened before traffic begins moving again.
