Daviess County, KY (June 22, 2026) – Authorities reported that one person was killed and two others were seriously injured following a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and Carter Road on Friday afternoon, June 19.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after reports of a three-vehicle collision involving a Jeep, a Honda, and a minivan. A preliminary investigation indicates the crash began when a Jeep traveling in the right lane of U.S. 60 was alongside a Honda as another vehicle attempted to merge onto the bypass from the Carter Road on-ramp.
The maneuver caused the Jeep and Honda to make contact. The Honda then lost control, crossed the median, and entered the westbound lanes, where it struck a minivan. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals suffered serious injuries and were taken to medical treatment. This is a developing story.
We extend our sympathy to those mourning this loss.
What Can Lead to Chain-Reaction Crashes on Highways?
Chain-reaction crashes begin with a single point of contact between vehicles, which can quickly escalate when traffic is moving at higher speeds. Lane changes, merging traffic, and limited space can all contribute to these types of collisions.
When a vehicle loses control after an initial impact, it may cross into opposing lanes or strike additional vehicles, increasing the severity of the crash. Roadway design and traffic volume can also influence how quickly a situation develops.
Investigators typically review vehicle positions, speed, and roadway conditions to understand how each impact occurred. This helps reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to a multi-vehicle crash.
