How Do Fire Investigators Determine the Cause of a House Fire?
After a fatal house fire, investigators carefully examine the structure to identify where the fire started and how it spread. They frequently study burn patterns, electrical systems, appliances, heating equipment, and any materials that may have contributed to the fire’s growth.
The review can also include witness statements, photographs, and physical evidence collected from the home. In some cases, laboratory testing is used to analyze debris or other materials. Determining the origin and cause of a fire can take time, particularly when extensive damage has occurred. A thorough examination helps establish an accurate timeline and identify any factors that contributed to the fire.
