Why Serious Hit-and-Run Crashes May Lead to Criminal Investigations?
When a crash results in serious injuries and a driver leaves the scene, law enforcement agencies typically conduct a criminal investigation alongside the traffic collision investigation. Officers gather physical evidence, witness statements, surveillance footage, and other information to determine the sequence of events and identify those involved.
In felony hit-and-run cases, investigators also work to establish whether the driver knowingly left the scene and whether impairment or other contributing factors played a role in the collision. Quick coordination among responding officers helps locate suspects who attempt to flee.
These investigations help authorities determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and support any criminal charges that may result.
