What Factors Can Contribute to Intersection Collisions?
Intersections are among the most common places for traffic crashes because they bring together vehicles traveling in different directions. Drivers must often judge gaps in traffic, follow signals or signs, and remain aware of surrounding vehicles at the same time.
Many intersection-related crashes occur when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of oncoming traffic while turning or entering a roadway. Limited visibility, driver distraction, heavy traffic, and failure to yield can also increase the likelihood of a collision. In multi-vehicle crashes, investigators often examine vehicle positions, traffic patterns, roadway design, and witness statements to better understand how the sequence of events unfolded. Reviewing these details can help clarify the factors that contributed to the crash and whether any traffic violations played a part.
